NHSC Operations Updates 2008      Page Update:  June 25, 2008

Update June 25th, 2008  The remodeling of the swim club has been completed and we had a very successful Memorial Day - Opening Weekend. We had over 800 members visit the swim club on the opening weekend and everyone enjoyed the new pools, regardless of the cool water temperatures. We'd like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication to make sure the swim club opened on time! It's time to enjoy the summer at North Harford Swim Club!

Update May 12th, 2008   We were able to get a fair amount accomplished at the Swim Club this Mother's Day weekend, in spite of the marginal weather conditions. Both the main pool and wading pool have been plastered featuring 3M Colorquartz: Blue Splash Blend. This new pool finish will provide a much harder and more durable surface that will be easier to maintain for years to come…Plus, the added feature of brilliant colors!!

On the facilities side of the club, we continued to get the “Snack Shack” ready for the upcoming health department inspection, volleyball courts and horse shoe pits have been re-graded, debris removed from the parking lot, new front gate installed, bathrooms cleaned, tables/chairs washed and continued the general clean up. I’d like to personally thank all the volunteers that helped get our facilities ready for Opening Day…we couldn’t do it without you!

Update May 8th, 2008  We have only 2 weeks until Opening Day!! The tile and coping installation is almost complete with just a few finishing touches left to do. The new decks are being prepared and should be poured next week. We'll continue to get the pool prepared for the new plaster, featuring the 3M Colorquartz: Blue Splash Blend.

Update April 21st, 2008 Spring is finally here and summer is right around the corner! We continued to make good progress on the remodeling of the club. We have started the tile and coping phase of the project...we will be installing a white pre-cast coping stone with a "safety grip" profile and cobalt blue tile around the water line, as well as the racing lanes and wall targets. The grading of the new deck areas are shaping up and we'll be making decisions soon regarding the new fence line and seating areas in the wading pool. Opening Day is only 5 weeks away! We still have a lot to tackle and we'll need some urgent help from our membership. We need a help with preparation of the facilities including: gardening, installation a split rail fence, power washing picnic tables and playground, tweaking the gate hinges, concessions cleaning for necessary permits, and overall cleaning of the club house. Please contact gweininger@yahoo.com if you are able to lend a hand.

Update March 30th, 2008  Progress continues at the club, although a little less glamorous compared to weeks past. The majority of the plumbing is now in place including significant hydraulic upgrades which will improve our water quality and make weekly pool cleaning much easier. The next 8 weeks are going to be very exciting!!

Update March 21st, 2008  Latest and greatest...This week we completed the "shell" of the expansion on the main pool and the new wading pool. The shape configuration is much easier to visualize now. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.

Update March 16th, 2008  We continue to make good progress on the renovations and have taken advantage of the favorable weather. The featured shape conversion of the main pool is another step closer to completion and the overall remodeling is on schedule. It's hard to believe that Memorial Day weekend is only 10 weeks way! We will be organizing "Volunteer Days" to help with general clean up of the swim club. In the past, our members have been more than generous with their time to help with - landscaping, picnic table repairs, and general cleaning in preparation for opening day. We'll need your help this year more than ever. Volunteer days and scheduled activities will be posted on the club calendar.

Update March 4th, 2008   We continue to make progress on the remodeling of the swim club. Since our last update in early February...we have completed the demolition of the patios, completed the removal of the old fiberglass pool finish from the pool shell, filled in the old wading pool and excavated the new wading pool, removed barrier wall in the shallow end of main pool, excavated the new addition to the main pool, installed new plumbing in the wading pool, and have started to set-up the new hydraulic pump system in our filter room...WHEW!  Stay tuned for future updates.

Update February 1st, 2008  We have officially broken ground and the remodeling of the North Harford Swim Club has begun! The demolition started on January 23, 2008 and things have been moving fast ever since.

Our newly remodeled pool will feature a shape conversion of the main pool to include a large step area with a sun ledge, bench seating and 800 square feet of additional swimming area to alleviate some of the congestion along “cannon ball alley”. The wading pool will now offer a beach front entrance and playful mosaic tiles for our young swimmers. Both pools require resurfacing of the interior pool finish. We’ll be using a plaster finish which is the most well-known pool surface and allows us to integrate additives that resist stains, adds strength, brilliant colors and provides texture. Our racing lanes and water line tile will be replaced to make the edges of the pool look clean and crisp again.

Please take a moment to view the pictures updating our progress. We will continue to update everyone on our “Operations Blog” as we move into different stages of the project.

It’s hard to believe that our “Grand Re-Opening” is less than 4 months away!

Happy Holidays everyone!   Update January 14th, 2008

I wanted to send out a brief update on the progress of the upcoming renovations. We have received final approval of the plans and specifications for our renovations - including the new diving board - from the State with permits in hand. We are currently working with our contractor on getting our building permit from Harford County. We've experienced some delays with the Harford County permits in regards to updating our facility to meet the current requirements of the Maryland Accessibility Code. Rick and I had a meeting w/ Lothorian last week and we're working together on some proposals that will bring our club into ADA compliance, while minimizing the costs of the additional project. We may need to expand our parking area to include (2) dedicated handicap parking spaces closer to our building. We should have the final costs of the proposal next week and our Harford County Building Permit soon after the 1st of the year. We also received reassurance from Lothorian that we will be ready to open by Memorial Day weekend. The next 5 months are going to be very exciting!!

I hope everyone has an opportunity to enjoy time with your family, with your friends, and with each other this holiday...Merry Christmas!

Gary
